Mount Batur Sunrise Trek

A 4x4 drops you at the trailhead at 3:40am. You walk about two hours up a packed volcanic ridge in the dark — headlamps on, someone's speaker playing, the crater lake appearing below once the sky turns.

Sunrise is around 6:10. Breakfast is eggs cooked in the steam vents at the summit, which is either the best thing you'll eat all week or a gimmick, depending on how much you like eggs. Then you walk down the other side and stop at a hot spring before the car takes you back.

It is not a technical climb, but it is 500 m of elevation before dawn at 1,400 m altitude. If you get winded on stairs at home, take the hot-spring half day instead.
